Florentino Ameghino (born 19 September 1853 in Moneglia, Liguria, Italy - 6 August 1911 in La Plata, Argentina) was an Argentine geologist and paleontologist. He is considered one of the founders of vertebrate paleontology in Argentina and made significant contributions to the knowledge of the extinct fauna of South America.
