Major Earthquake Strikes Chile
7.4-Magnitude Quake Hits Maule Region
SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) - A major earthquake struck in Chile on Thursday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The 7.4-magnitude quake hit the Maule region at 6:46 p.m. local time (2146 GMT).
The epicenter of the quake was located about 90 miles (145 kilometers) southwest of Santiago, the capital of Chile. The quake was felt strongly in Santiago and other parts of the country.
There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries, but authorities are urging residents to be prepared for aftershocks.
