Good Afternoon in Dutch: Goedemiddag

From noon onwards, the word "goedemiddag" (good afternoon) is used in Dutch, just like in English.

Thankfully, "goedemiddag" has a long time range. It can be used from noon until around 4:00 or 5:00 pm.

Other Common Dutch Greetings

In addition to "goedemiddag," there are several other common Dutch greetings:

  • "Hallo" (hello): Can be used at any time of day.
  • "Goedemorgen" (good morning): Used from around 6:00 am until around noon.
  • "Goedenavond" (good evening): Used from around 6:00 pm onwards.
  • "Tot ziens" (goodbye): Literally means "until later."
  • "Dag" (goodbye): Can be used at any time of day and is the most informal way to say goodbye.
