Islington to host major celebration of active travel this Sunday

A major celebration of active travel is taking place in Islington this Sunday, with a range of free activities for all ages and abilities.

The event, which is part of the council's Active Travel Festival, will take place on Upper Street from 11am to 4pm.

There will be something for everyone to enjoy, including:

  • Free bike hire
  • Guided bike rides
  • Cycle skills training
  • Scooter races
  • Balance bike races
  • Walking football
  • Parkour
  • Street dance

There will also be a range of stalls from local organisations promoting active travel, as well as food and drink stalls.

Islington Council's Active Travel Festival is part of a wider commitment to making the borough a more active and healthy place to live. The council has invested in a range of measures to improve walking and cycling infrastructure, including new cycle lanes, pedestrian crossings and bike hangars.

The council is also working with schools and businesses to promote active travel as a fun, healthy and sustainable way to get around.

Cllr Rowena Champion, Islington Council's executive member for environment and transport, said: "We're really excited to be hosting our Active Travel Festival this Sunday. This is a great opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to try out active travel and see how much fun it can be.

"We're committed to making Islington a more active and healthy place to live, and our Active Travel Festival is just one of the ways we're doing that."
